The Berthgiver (Last Part)

Strange how some people would speak of love like it is meant to last forever. They would brag about it; perform strange rituals and daring exploits to flaunt their affection for one another; and make oaths and promises that such love would endure even the test of time. A person smitten by romantic passion would embrace deception to get hold of what they feel as real. But in truth, love knows only moments and what remains beyond infatuation is bittersweet memory that is meant to last a lifetime.

Despite this reality, I always tell those smitten by love to snatch every opportunity to feel it flowing in their being. Love is like a virus that inhibits your mental functions. You can never tell when it will contain you; but the moment it does, its infection would leave you unable to grasp even the most rudimentary vocations of your sensibilities.

On the second day after being introduced to FireArcher, things were far from ordinary. Our sweet text exchanges continued and as a result, it felt like walking in the clouds. Despite the toxic campaign season which threatened to overwhelm me, I found myself basking in my little box of sunshine. The Chairman of the Party would demand more cash donations to run the political machine and just for them not to distract my attention, I would give away whatever cash I have in my wallet. I still cannot forget how I was able to give up my two thousand peso savings out of sheer joy when FireArcher agreed to a meet up the next day.

---

It was a Sunday afternoon when we met in Vito Cruz. He belonged to the home of Green Archers and to see him in his environment was his home court advantage. Pleasantries were exchanged and the conversation began rolling. Nobody knew in PEx that we would see each other. I was a sneaky bastard who wanted him for myself. For if the others knew what was going on, I would be put to the cross the next time a reunion will be called.

The meet-up was a landmark achievement that I've even forgotten my girlfriend who was looking for me that weekend.

Previous social engagements dictate that a coffee date or a little snack hangout should be in order. That was how I conducted my affairs in the straight world. I never knew that FireArcher had something else in mind. Smitten by his charms, I let go of my command and instead followed his direction.

His trail lead me to the side streets of Malate - behind the university he often bragged about in the forum. Dazed and unable to speak for myself, I entrusted my innocence and friendliness to his responsibility. We found ourselves sitting next to each other, on a two-person bed, whose soft blue striped sheets relaxed the senses. Nobody was inside the house except for us who were merely hanging out in his room at the farthest corner of his place. He turned on the stereo which played light alternative music. In my calm and inviting surroundings, never did I sense that hostility was just around the corner:

To subtly switch a topic into something more provocative would invite danger - A peril which my instinct was still unaccustomed to in those early days.

I cannot recall the things we have talked about. He must have said something about his school, his culinary talents, and even his past relationships with men. At 18, I learned how advanced he was compared to me who was just about to enter a life of queerhood at the age of 20. The conversation went on, until we gradually delved into subjects that were too intimate to even mention when being alone.

Out of nowhere the initiation began:

"Hey can I ask you a favor?"

"Ano yun dude."

"Is it alright to kiss you?" A sudden brush of coldness run up my spine. It took me a few deep breaths before I could respond to his question.

"Sure, it's alright with me..." I saw his pearly whites shine on his face. He must have brought me to his place just for this moment to happen.

FireArcher moved closer. I felt his warm breath melting my lips. A seething heat burned my body, while my shaky hands froze in excitement for an orgasmic end from the person who just poisoned my heart.

I closed my eyes and waited for the kiss he will plant on my lips. Slowly, he positioned himself for a passionate assault. As I crossed the point of no return, I felt fear, passion, and thrill for something I have never done before. There were so many things running in my head: acceptance, a secret romance, a life that will never be the same again.

Who would have thought everything would start from there.

The skirmish broke out a few minutes before sundown. He began by assaulting my lips with lip-locking caresses. I was able to taste his sweet saliva but my nicotine-laced tongue repelled him away. Too bad, my defenses were strong enough to push him back. Had I chewed a gum before his initiation, the kiss might have lead into something more. He tried another attempt to make out, but when he saw me shaking violently, his senses took over. A hasty retreat was in order and I was spared from a white and sticky explosion I wasn't ready yet to give a try.

---

There were no traces of guilt when I left his apartment. Instead, the premature disconnection left me hanging in mid-air after a climax wasn't achieved in our attempt at copulation. FireArcher promised me to expect another round the next time we meet. On my way home, he said the reason for leaving me in peace.

He explained. "Pero next time, magpapaputok tayong dalawa hehe."

The prospects of having a carnal rematch left me with a hard-on that I had to pacify the moment I entered my room. Believing that there was something between us, I became bolder in my manner of expressing my feelings toward FireArcher.

Unfortunately, it was a one way understanding. What he simply wanted was to get me.

Our text exchanges became a trickle a few days after our failed engagement. He said he was busy with academics so I just decided to leave him alone. Much as it was difficult to return to the life I had just abandoned, picking up the pieces was my only choice. The girlfriend never learned what happened and so were FireArcher's devoted admirers in the group. These boys would later confess their feelings, only to be turned down without even reaching first base.

It would take another seven months before someone would successfully overrun my newly fortified camp. I met him in the chat room and we took advantage of his friend's generosity when she entrusted to my mate the keys to her apartment. The guy happened to be extremely frisky that evening, while I was determined to change my image into something naughtier after being told that I'm too nice for a non-straight guy.

By then, FireArcher had become a mere preface to a story about my self-discovery - whose nearly-forgotten memory resurfaced a few days ago. The recollection was triggered when a kid who happens to follow my blog suddenly confessed his sexuality to me during our conversation in the Yahoo Messenger.

The date of my initiation was February 17. Seven years later, here I am providing a berth place to someone who found himself out in the open sea and into the same body of water I crossed blindly without a berthing place to anchor myself to the ground.

There he was, having his alone time beside the window. Impressions tell that he was not in the mood to mingle with the people in our table. I glanced at him from a distance only to see his eyes fixed at the road outside. It was clear that something was bothering him but being a newbie in the group, to reach out would make me appear too cocky to those who met him before I arrived.

Some of the guys from our thread would interrupt his solitary confinement. They would pull his hand and coax him to join us in our wild abandonment. He would respond to the invitation by sliding his butt from the bar stool. He would then stand in one corner and thump his feet and nod his head to the sound of music to make it appear that he was dancing.

After a house track has finished playing, he would quietly slip from our circle and reach his hand to pick a bottle of beer he left on the table. He would empty the bottle with one gulp before returning to his stool and fix his gaze back to the road outside the window.

It must be my tendency to be drawn to people who seldom speak that lead me closer to him. After all, there seems to be a natural attraction between two non-straight men who find each other deem masculine for their taste. Barely an hour since I arrived, we were already exchanging pleasantries in one corner as prying eyes turn toward our direction.

I found out weeks later that the reason for the sudden coldness among several of the attendees was because he was the apple of the eye during the grand eye ball.

And there we were, suddenly getting comfortable with one another.

I found out during the course of our conversation that the guy he was courting for many weeks suddenly picked someone to become his new lover. I didn't speak much that night, and instead listened as he recounted the things he did in order to win the guy's affection. For a tall, chinito guy like him, I think he was a good catch. I even made enemies just for having a monopoly of his attention. But since it was my first real encounter with a non-straight guy who thinks and acts like me, I was more fascinated in becoming his buddy. After all, I was still in a heterosexual relationship and I just couldn't imagine having a girl and a guy being my lovers.

The night ended with us exchanging numbers. I left earlier than the rest since they were all drunk and I could already feel that some of them didn't want my presence. Upon returning to the party meeting, the core group was still arguing about the expenses and logistics of running the elections. Meanwhile, the candidates rehearsed their speeches at the far end of the room.

Things would have appeared normal except for me, whose eyes suddenly had this spark after my first grand eye ball. For the first time, I never felt alone. Someone actually understood the troubles running in my head. To live a double life I am against wasn't easy, but to know that another person shares the same struggles I have was enough to overcome the burdens of denying myself of the truth:

I am attracted to another guy and there's no other way but to accept it as a fact.

[12:08] kidblogger001: so dami ok pa plng di alam.

[12:10] kidblogger001: ah. pero alam mong mali diba?

[12:11] kidblogger001: mali ang lahat ng ito.

[12:11] MuGen: kung straight ka
[12:11] MuGen: o bading ka
[12:11] MuGen: o bi ka.

---

It was almost morning and my text exchanges with FireArcher never stopped We talked about our longings and yes, even our desire to see each other soon. Reading between the lines, the messages revealed our mutual interest for one another. I just couldn't admit it. As my party mates retreat for some rest, I looked at our effeminate colleagues with a smile on my face. They returned the favor by raising an eyebrow as they passed in front of me.

At the back of my head. All I could muster was an act of surrender. There was no use holding on, for my insatiable appetite to discover my new-found sexuality has reached levels that could never be controlled anymore. With our first encounter still burning in my memory, I decided to know him more.

I retreated into the night with these lines ending my first gay poem.

I,
a suppose to be
impenetrable fortress
has become a mudbrick
withering after ages of hiding

You
burn me relentlessly
in the most secret
of the nights

We agreed to see each other a few days after our first meeting in a grand eye ball.

The grand eye ball was my first. Organized by the founders of the first gay and lesbian community in Pinoyexchange, it set the standards for all the gatherings among non-straight groups in the online forum. I remember showing up in my school uniform that night in Malate. The campaign drive for the student council elections was in its final swing and meetings after meetings took what remained of my social life.

Despite the busy schedule, my inner sexual conflict was gaining prominence among the things I thought beyond politics. I just confessed my bisexual tendencies in the same forum a few weeks before and the invitation to join the gathering sent to me hereafter was too tempting not to ignore.

So I made an excuse to my other colleagues who were still in the middle of a heated debate within the campus just to satisfy my curiosity. I rode a jeep in Dapitan going to Taft Avenue; walked a few blocks from the main road until reaching the corner of Nakpil and Orosa streets; and entered a lesbian bar which would close down before the year ended and open again as the infamous Red Banana, which was known for its cum-drenched dark room upstairs until it was closed down by the authorities several years ago.

The place where my life as a non-straight started is now occupied by the much tamer O-Bar.

"Hello! Nasaan kayo?"

"Akyat ka lang. Nakaupo kami malapit sa CR."

I called the organizer using my mobile phone the moment I set foot inside the bar. These days, I would even leave a dance partner and walk as far away as I could just to call back my mother whenever she checks my whereabouts during my weekly night-outs. Finding the group wasn't difficult. Since it was a lesbian bar, there were only a handful of guys inside the place. I easily found them seated near the bathroom.

What greeted me was a bunch of men and women who happens to be all non-straights. Most of them were effeminate gays in their mid and early twenties, while a couple of masculine ones were seated next to the window. The rest were lipstick and butch lesbians dancing next to our table. Had I not been exposed to the same kind of people within my political party, I would have never lasted an hour in their company.

Like all first timers, I had my tense moments too. I kept on looking at faces of people around me out of fear that someone might know who I am. You see, I was technically straight. I had no experience with another guy; I was quite well-known in my campus; and my circle of friends inside the classroom were straight men who enjoyed bashing gay people. It would be a great embarrassment had someone from school caught me hanging out in such queer places.

The only gay people I knew were the flamboyant and screaming ones from my college. The concept of discreetness hasn't entered my consciousness yet and the thought of seeing a masculine guy who happens to like another guy was a stuff of legend I was trying to prove to exist. It was the reason I dared show up in the company of gay people. Somehow, it got so cramped inside my closet that the need to reach out and connect with men who shares my affinity became a need I could not resist.

[11:42] kidblogger001: so anu ka?

[11:51] kidblogger001: oo?

"Hi, my name is Joms. My PEx handle is Endymionn." They all nodded to acknowledge my presence.

Like in all traditional grand eyeballs, there is a part where the host would introduce the new arrival to everyone in the group. First to be introduced were the lesbians who were grinding to the sound of Joyrise before they were interrupted by one of the organizers. They were all pretty, very feminine and if not for their admission of sexuality, one would never realize that they were actually boob-diggers.

Next were the professional gay men from the "straight-acting" group. They were men, yes, but straight-acting, I doubt. Nevertheless, they all welcomed me with open-arms despite showing some stiffness and distance when I tried to reach out to them. I sat in their table realizing that I cannot relate to the musicals, fine dining places and pop culture they talked among themselves.

The last to be introduced were the "bisexuals." They were the ones I'm acquainted with in the forum. All of them were students like me. We came from different universities who have different views about sexuality. Among all of them, I think I was the only rookie. Most of them were already quite comfortable with themselves and their reasons for attending were far different from mine.

In those days, my favorite opening lines were "kelan mo na realize na hindi ka pala straight?" or "when was the last time you had a girlfriend?" Those who got fed up by those questions raised by the uninstructed ones like me would just raise their eyebrows, smile and then hesitantly give their answers. After satisfying your curiosity, they would return to their hunting grounds in search for their potential lovers. Since I wasn't really a catch and most people found me aloof, if not too intimidating, I was left in the corner near the windows looking at the group of people assembled on the street below.

That was until I met someone who happened to share the same wavelength as mine.

His PEx handle was FireArcher and before the week was over, he would eventually be the one to initiate me to the ways of being a non-straight.

Valentines (Last Part)

Half an hour to go before Valentines Day is over.

The day went by almost unnoticed, like the five years that came before. Five years. That's how long it took before I finally realized that I'm better off on my own. Valentines Day with Phanks was a roller-coaster experience. It was a ride where I both felt being at the crest and base of the emotion called love.

We bore witness to the first Lovepalooza in Roxas Boulevard during our first run. We never kissed, but to be there as a couple was the apex of our relationship. Father died the second year so I never had any story to tell about our Valentines - except perhaps vignettes of grieving and accepting a life less of a loved one. A cold war erupted during our third. The blog never explained the reasons, but I hint that he had other important matters to attend and the occasion simply passed as a mere footnote to his life story. We welcomed the fourth by having a movie and dinner date at Robinson's Place a week earlier. By some divine joke, Valentines Day came to a close with me cuddling someone in bed. Yes, the partner decided to sleep over at my place. I wonder if mother heard the moaning and grunting sounds we made that morning. The fifth I was broke, but we were able to have a decent lunch at Gary's Taft despite a heaving stomach and a broken soul. Those were my Valentines days with him and looking back at how our time went by, it wasn't as bad as I thought before writing this entry.

However, one thing that is lacking with him is the initiative to steer the wheel. I cannot remember a time when it was he who planned our activities or spent entirely for our dates. It was always my call and had I let him run the show, probably we have never achieved anything at all. Friends were right when they said I spoiled my ex to the brim. I lessened his burdens by taking responsibility over our relationship that it became a one-way affair. How unfortunate that when he finally saw what was missing, I was already preparing to take flight.

We broke up without ever seeing each other.

Despite our tragic past, I sincerely wish that he found solace tonight. It is my hope that somewhere along the road, he met someone deem worthy as my replacement. As for me, replacing him is easy. With a market value that is on the rise, it would not be a surprise if I suddenly speak of romance like I clumsily found it passing my direction one of these weeks.

But there are matters that are easier to ignore than to pursue half-heartedly only to abandoned it at the end.

One of them is love.

And now that I am strong enough to stand without anyone to hold me up, I think it would be best that I remain distant to anyone who would make my heart beat. It is a choice I have to bear, rather than unintentionally hurt people who suddenly find themselves entering my cold space.

---

So how did I spend my Valentines?

Like during the Christmas and New Year's eve, I let Mugen and Darkstar frolic the places I once called home. On the dance floor, we learned how lonely people pretending to be tough disarm themselves when they find someone stronger than them. The dance partner I chose last night had this boundless energy that kept me bouncing and prancing until my legs hurt. I thought he was simply there for the dance but when he pulled my shirt closer to his body, I knew he wanted more.

Suddenly I was reminded of a time when it was me who leaned my head against someone's back. The emotional troubles were simply too much to bear that to press a part of me against somebody was enough to claim a slice of my strength back.

Now it was someone else and when he groped his arms around my body, I responded with even a tighter hug to make him feel needed. He pressed his face against my chest hard enough to let me feel the troubles of his heart. I felt his loneliness; his inner longing for a savior despite being in the company of (fuck) friends. The night concluded with us making out while being surrounded by envious and snooty people looking for their rightful one on the dance floor. When he turned his back to check his buddies, (who took pictures of us while kissing and groping in front of them) I made a hasty exit without saying goodbye. My two needy invisible companions had their fill and getting someone's number wasn't necessary to prolong the deed.

I went to work recalling how Valentines were done in elementary after passing a queue of pupils on their way for their first communion the following morning.

Back then, a pupil would have to dodge a swarm of vendors selling long-stemmed roses and plastic heart necklaces before they can push themselves toward the school gate's entrance. A rose would cost around ten pesos and if you're lucky enough to be given by your sweet mother an extra twenty for your baon, you would spend the extra cash acquiring those flowers and giving them to the teacher of your choice.

The teacher - usually your adviser - receiving your long-stemmed blossom would appreciate the thoughtfulness. She would suddenly express an air of concern whenever she sees you running along the corridor. From then forth, expect your academic interests secured until the school year is over. That is how I learned the fine art of Public Relations. In fourth year college many years later, I was able to use the same tricks to secure a passing grade in Spanish. Apparently, the elderly Senora Soresca never received any flowers from her other students that when he saw me reaching my hand to give her my long stem from Tecson's, it automatically translated to a grade of 3 no matter how many exams I flunked in her class.

Suddenly I missed the days when nobody would greet you "Happy Single Awareness Day" like your well being and sanity depends on having a special someone today.

---

It was Pulsar's turn to run my Valentines according to what he deems ideal.

Immediately after the shift was over, I headed towards the nearby Puregold Supermarket to procure the goods I previously pledged for the Hanap Barkada's Paglingap Outreach Activity. If Mugen finds contentment in hugs and kisses from cute strangers and Darkstar enjoys seeing other heads crane towards his direction whenever he shows up in front of people, Pulsar's satisfaction needs are way up higher than my two other egos. His requirements this time would include two bundles of 11 pieces adult diapers, one 12-roll toilet paper, 5 kilos of detergent soap, and two rolls of cotton. I didn't check how much it cost me, but the sheer enjoyment of doing something selfless for others was enough to compensate for the financial lost.

Pulsar and I delivered the goods all the way to Pasay without any assistance from anyone. We did some tricky balancing act passing narrow aisles inside jeeps and buses and endured seeing couples all over the place busily expressing their love for one another. Had I been a little focused on my state of miserable singlehood, I would never go out to be seen by others in the first place.

But this occasion is different. Seven years; Three failed successive relationships; One chance to enjoy a Valentines I always had in mind. This year may not be the same Valentines I will be celebrating in the years to come.

Because things will continue to change and what truly matters is now.

So I made a decision to go full throttle. It will be the most expensive Valentines Date I will give to people closest to me.

8:30 PM, Greenwich Quiapo Hidalgo

"Miss yung Family Pizza Overload please."

"Would that be all sir?"

"Yes, how long would it take before I can get my order."

"13 minutes sir, okay lang ba sa inyo?"

"Yep, ikot lang ako sa labas. Balik na lang ako."

"Okay sir."

---

9 PM 7-Eleven Santa Mesa

"Magkano yung [?]gallon ng Rocky Road?"

"250 po."

"Ah eh, sandali lang ha withdraw muna ako."

After balancing the family size pizza and yawning wallet on my right hand while sliding the ATM card on the machine slot, I was able to withdraw 200 pesos from my account.

"Heto yun 100."

---

Ten minutes later.

"Oi pa-valentines ko sa inyo. Enjoy sa pizza at ice cream!!!"

Dates, Lovers and Friends may come and go. But to welcome the occasion with your family and the needy is I think the most sublime way of celebrating Valentines Day.

Chronicles of El Tigre (Episode Five)

The chronicles was set to end after its fifth run. Finally, we have ran out of subjects to talk about and the cycle of old conversations took its toll on our shaky friendship. Things have always been the same - him, whining about everything under the sun - and me, listening and fooling around just to keep our daily chats as engaging as possible. There were no new things to talk about and when I introduce stories of my own that we could mince and dissect together throughout the day, in the end, he would just keep a mum. Thus, we began to put some distance. There were days when we never find ourselves chatting despite seeing each other's Yahoo handles online.

It was never my habit to send the first message first - especially in his case, since I tend to lace our online conversations with flirty undertones. It is either he never gets it or simply tolerates such cross-border assaults. There are times I get spooked at how I am able to cross the line and return to my peripheries without being noticed for my provocations.

Sex is a subject I avoid and when he talked about masturbation a few days ago, I changed the topic by asking him about his new workout routine. We also talked about Gymrat23 and Ocim (the guys I referred to in the entry "Spot the Difference") and how he sees those two guys as lovers rather than friends.

"Eh magsyota naman yung dalawang yun eh," El Tigre claimed.

"Tungek! Of course, I was lying to cover up for the two lovebirds who uncannily professed their romantic feelings in a straight-dominated forum.

El Tigre sent a happy face smiley before we moved on to a new subject.

However, it seems that the longer El Tigre and I chat online, the more we become open to each other. Such openness is something that I dread for attachments may form and I might get tied down to a person I never intend to pursue. Fortunately, he leaves a steady stream of proofs that would thwart my own doubts about his sexuality. I go back to seeing him as a straight guy no matter how affectionate our exchanges had become.

This morning, El Tigre revealed something about himself that would permanently seal my doubts regarding his preference. He spoke about his past relationship for the first time.

[12:02] elTigre: in love

[12:14] MuGen: bakit?

[12:17] elTigre: [insert smiley here]
[12:17] MuGen: gaano kayo nagtagal?
[12:18] Meebo Message: Could not connect to network.
[12:20] MuGen: gaano kayo katagal?
[12:20] elTigre: 1 year tapos umalis sya ng pinas di na kinya

El Tigre indeed had a straight past. He just broke up last year after his ex-girlfriend left for Dubai. For weeks, I tried to unravel the mystery as to why he never sought a new girlfriend. The answer came directly from him:

He has a very high standard when picking up a mate.

The moment I opened his ex-girlfriend's multiply account, I was floored over my seat. She was indeed a certified bombshell - slim, long black flowing hair, brown skin that complements my buddy's fair and boyish features. Had they still been together, they could be easily mistaken as ramp models strutting along Megamall's wide-spaced atrium.

El Tigre's revelation was a source of relief. Finally I could see him as someone out of my league. At the same time, I could tease him all I want knowing that I could never-ever get attached romantically with my chat friend. Yet for some reasons, his revelations left a tinge of pain that I still cannot understand. What I do know is that it brought back memories of a time when I was forced to sought a girl for distraction after learning that my guy bestfriend decides to pursue a girl he just met.

It was my then straight life.

The only time I really get serious in having a relationship is when I feel threatened of being left out by a male friend's intention of having a girlfriend. The last time it happened was during Yusuke's time. Rather than being abandoned by my closest companion, I decided to enter someone's life.

Who would have thought that our friendly hang-outs, night-long phone conversations and constant companionship in class would end up in a romantic interlude that would become my first and last in the realm of the heterosexuals. Now that we're very much close after years of not speaking to one another, it was our fondest memories that I choose to remember once again.

[12:20] MuGen: ganun ba
[12:20] MuGen: matagal rin
[12:20] MuGen: [insert smiley here]
[12:20] elTigre: hehe
[12:21] MuGen: ex ko
[12:21] MuGen: [insert multiply address here]

And despite being separated for seven years, it was our happy past that convinced me to introduce her to El Tigre this afternoon.

---

When she returns to the country at the end of the month, I promised to take her out for dinner. You may call it many names but I guess this is the closest I could ever have as my first date this year.

She knows I am not straight.

Spot The Difference

Even if they don't talk about it, one would have a clear idea that something is going on between these two guys. One can easily read between the lines.

And to think they're posting in a supposedly straight-dominated forum.

What I said to Manila Gay Guy at the Fab Party last night was right. Indeed, times have changed.

Pasubali | Chronicles of El Tigre (Episode Four)

  • Adult Clothes
  • Adult Diapers
  • Beddings (unan, kumot, etc)
  • Rice
  • Baston/Canes
  • Vitamins
  • Bath Soap
  • Detergent soap
  • Toothbrush & Toothpaste
  • Towels (yung malaki na parang good morning towels)
  • Baby Powder
  • Lotions

Maraming salamat guys!

Chronicles of El Tigre (Episode Three)

---

[10:27] elTigre: normal bang jumebs ng 3 times a day?
[10:27] MuGen: oo pag marami ka kinakain
[10:28] MuGen: malambot ba ang jebs?
[10:28] elTigre: ok lang normal lang naman
[10:28] MuGen: walang problema dun
[10:28] MuGen: asus
[10:28] MuGen: ikaw rin sumagot sa tanong mo
[10:28] MuGen: hahaha.
[10:28] elTigre: bka kasi me something lang dun
[10:28] MuGen: breakfast ka na?
[10:29] elTigre: hindi pa
[10:29] elTigre: 12 ang breakfast ko lagi e
[10:30] elTigre: sakit talga ulo ko e di parin nawawala me konti pa e
[10:33] elTigre: 2 lng nmn e
[10:33] MuGen: sobra kaya yun
[10:33] elTigre: hihihi
[10:33] elTigre: ganun

---

Just the same, it is still too early to tell what to know about him.

But, whatever it's worth, I'm so glad we still see each other as two straight friends.

---

[10:44] elTigre: so no gyming nu
[10:44] elTigre: [insert evil smiley here]
[10:45] MuGen: WALA
[10:45] MuGen: pahinga ka lang
[10:45] elTigre: hahahah
[10:48] MuGen: maniwala ha!
[10:48] elTigre: opo
[10:50] MuGen: [insert smiley here]

Chronicles Of El Tigre (Episode Two)

[20:41] elTigre: [insert smiley here]
[20:41] MuGen: kasi?
[20:41] elTigre: nagbabalat katawan ko e
[20:41] MuGen: hahaha

---

[21:03] elTigre: cge uwi na ako
[21:03] MuGen: babay
[21:03] MuGen: miyawmiyaw
[21:03] MuGen: [insert smiley here]
[21:03] elTigre: later if online kapa
[21:03] elTigre: ingat brad

Kapitan and Pan

Fortune smiles to those who are true seekers of love.

This is the welcome message I use in my line of work. It never fails to encourage a response. In most cases, it opens doors that would lead to revelations of our clients' romantic longings. It welcomes thirsty wanderers searching for answers that would get them closer to their desires.

For months, the spiel was the song that allowed me to reach out and touch people's hearts. It never occurred that the same lines, which I had used on others, when used upon me would open the doors that would gently pat my long forgotten dreams.

How I wish, I could go back and start all over again.

"Kapitan, paano kayo nagsimula ni Kapitana?"

It was a harmless question directed to a friend from the Tripper's Clan. We know him as the Pirata, but another friend, Cholo_Dude had given him a new endearment. He is now known as the Kapitan, whose imposing presence had recently shaped how we conducted our affairs in the thread. We know each other in Pinoyexchange for years. However his elusive nature prevented me from knowing him deeper.

Until recently.

"Ganito, kasi di ba lima kami dati, si One, Ako, Biboy, Tsino and Pan," Kapitan replied.

"Uh huh.."

In truth, I wasn't aware that they had their own circle. I was busy with my own conflicts that a mere invitation from the group we both belonged was enough to keep me at peace. I've heard rumors about them before - rumors that spread like wildfire, whose impressions leaned against Kapitan's reputation. Now that I was able to talk to him directly, these stories which blurred my vision and their circle can now be put to rest: Everything said about him was just mere fabrication.

"Then kahit pa alam ni One yun wala lang, barkada.. tapos si Pan shoti na tawag ko dun. kumbaga bunsong kapatid. tapos lagi sya tumatawag sa bahay namin. sya yung napagkkwentuhan ko madalas about One."

We know that attractions are bound to fail when it is not sustained or encouraged by the person we direct our feelings to. We also know that when we get tired of putting a person on the spotlight and then realize that he is not as unique as we thought him to be, we turn off the lights, pack up and then move on. This is what happened to Kapitan and One. As for him and Pan, their brotherly ties had taken a new direction - something, which both of them never expected to happen.

"One time kami na tinutukso dahil sobrang close namin.

I remember having a very close friend whose name is Yusuke. We were classmates in high school and we treated each other as mere acquaintances back then. For some reasons however, our friendship went deeper during our junior year in college. We may be studying in different universities, but we talked almost every night on the phone for hours. Our subjects ranged from Anime to the software he used in class. We talked about friends, school and other trivial things that crossed our mind. We occasionally talked about women, but in those days, we felt awkward having them as our subject. The reason for Yusuke might have simply been to avoid getting teased by her sisters.

For me, the future would tell why.

We went out almost every Fridays to see different places. Malls were our favorite spot for not only do we get to do some window shopping, we also get to check the pirated PC games that proliferated around us. We sometimes watched movies, dined in different restaurants, or when we have no money, we just stayed home to watch TV or let him do his homework on my computer.

Sometimes he would do a sleep-over just to keep me company as I finish my papers for school.

Despite our almost inseparable bond, Yusuke and I were never romantically connected. We would sometimes sleep in one bed, but the thoughts of stepping over the line never occurred to me - not even the thought of it. We were perfect companions and I wouldn't have asked for more. Only later, when I learned how homo-leaning our actions were did I realize that he could have been my first lover.

"Then one day jinoke namin sila na kami na ni Pan."

"Talaga?" I said with much astonishment.

"That time iba nafeel ko nung sinabi niyang bawiin namin."

Yusuke began entertaining the thoughts of having a relationship with a girl just when I was about to start mine. Things didn't matter then for I have always preoccupied myself chasing women. I was even seeing one at that time he courted his soon-to-be girlfriend. However, it was Yusuke's company that I enjoyed most. I get to look after him without being expected of me. We get to see places without worrying too much about the well-being of my company. Ours could have been a very ideal man to man relationship only if I knew there was such a concept. Looking back at his values and beliefs however, he would never accept such idea.

Back to Kapitan and Pan, their joke backfired. The Kapitan admitted that he had fun being his shoti's boyfriend - even if just for a moment. I may not imagine how twisted it would be to become your little brother's lover, but I feel the connection - the bond that would make you achieve a state of singularity only the two of you could appreciate. No wonder, he was hesitant to take back Pan's joke. Perhaps in those few moments of bliss, he finally found his true purpose toward his little brother. Maybe they are meant to have roles deeper than what they have established.

So when the game was over, Kapitan already felt different. Rather than addressing what he now felt, he pulled back and put some distance between him and his shoti.

"Ganun kasi ako eh. Di ako yung aggressive type."

"So what happened?" I asked.

"So ayun, iniwasan ko siya then napansin niya yun."

"Binabasura ko daw siya."

"Tapos?" The suspense is killing me.

Had I have the balls to do as what Kapitan did, I would have saved myself from a lot of major heartaches and meaningless abandonment. But can I blame myself from veering towards back roads when ambiguity is my element? Can I blame myself for denying my emotions when history tells that I've been preceded by so many turn-downs in the past?

"Sabi niya, wag ko daw siya iwasan."

"Saka di naman daw niya ako hahayaang mahulog magisa."

Mag-isa. the last word that struck me deep. I found myself suddenly searching for any snippets of memory that would make me feel that I was never alone in my relationships - that my lovers did truly care for me. Maybe there were moments - rare and timeless ones. But now that they are muddled by my desire for something new; something that is closer to what Kapitan and Pan have, I systematically erased those moments from my memory banks.

Kapitan revealed to me more about his past this afternoon than in all the years we know each other. His relationship with Pan gifted him with insights that I still have to learn from my own experience.

In time malalaman mo kung sino talaga para sayo.

His words stunned me. Never did I think a person could be this brimming with insights when he is sharing his life with someone he truly loves. Now I understand why he has this authority over our other members in the clan. It is his brilliance that make people gather around him. It is his wisdom that convinced us to let him be the new Thread Founder of the clan.

Kapitan's story is just one of the several love stories I stumbled upon lately. His was full of promise, full of romance and full of hope for a relationship that some people find hard to believe that can work. His was a breathe of mentholated air, a warmth-giving hug on a cold lonely night, a full moon on a starless, cloudless sky which illuminates a silvery landscape used to the darkness of the night. In the course of our conversation, he told me a couple of times that he sees Pan more of a brother than his lover despite enduring the trials and tribulations of a two-year old relationship. A malicious mind could have simply interpreted his words as someone harboring some incest fantasies. Someone who sees beyond the veil could truly appreciate what they have achieved.

As I was talking to them last night over a chat conference, it became a source of confusion as to why Pan keeps calling someone Kuya when there was only me and the Kapitan chatting with him. Granted that I am the oldest among the two of them, Pan still sees me as his equal.

Only later did I find out who his Kuya really was.

"Kuya tulog na tayo. Sabay pa tayo magwowork-out mamaya."

"Sige offline na ako in a while. Paano Joms una na kami," the Kapitan said.

"Sige, good night sa inyong dalawa. Sa muling pag-uusap."

Fortune indeed smiles to those who are true seekers of love.

Love Birds

[21:12] Heartreb: eh ayun..
[21:12] Heartreb: ang lamig ngayon
[21:14] Mugen: hehe
[21:14] Mugen: sabihan mo [si nililigawan mo]
[21:14] Mugen: "ang lamig ngayon, sana ka-hug kita."
[21:14] Mugen: kikiligin yan
[21:14] Heartreb: hahaha
[21:16] Heartreb: [insert smiley face here]
[21:16] Mugen: nasabi mo na
[21:16] Mugen: online siya
[21:16] Mugen: hehehe
[21:17] Heartreb: hindi
[21:17] Heartreb: yoko nga
[21:17] Heartreb: hehehe
[21:17] Mugen: gusto mo ako magsabi
[21:17] Heartreb: kausap mo ba?
[21:17] Mugen: imamack ko siya
[21:17] Heartreb: wag na
[21:17] Mugen: sabihin ko na
[21:17] Mugen: hehehehehe

O Sabel this must be love!

It will be their moment at labas ako sa usapang iyon.

[21:47] Heartreb: hmmm...
[21:47] Heartreb: senti
[21:47] Mugen: hug ka daw ni
[21:47] Heartreb: hahaha
[21:47] Mugen: Bato
[21:47] Heartreb: Heartreb has buzzed you!
[21:47] Heartreb: wushu
[21:48] Mugen: [insert smiley face here]

***copy pasted from previous conversation

[21:56] Mugen: don't hesitate to ask me questions
[21:56] Mugen: how to make him fall for you.
[21:56] Mugen: ipapasa ko lahat ng alam ko.

Sana magkatuluyan sila.

So close to reaching
That famous happy end.
Almost believing
This one's not pretend
Now you're beside me
And look how far we've come
So far
We are
So close...

Chronicles Of El Tigre (Episode One)

And my wish is for God to grant me the chance to befriend a straight guy again. It's been ages since I was able to engage with one on a day-to-day basis, and I fear, that I have become too gay that I can't relate to non-gay people anymore.

---

[21:06] elTigre: kumain na din ako ng sandwits
[21:06] MuGen: ano palaman?
[21:07] elTigre: peanut butter
[21:07] elTigre: joke
[21:07] elTigre: [insert evil smiley grin]
[21:09] MuGen: hehe
[21:09] MuGen: honga
[21:09] MuGen: ikaw ang magdidisiplina sa akin

He is from PEx.
He is from the Body and Fitness Forum
For some reasons he gave his Yahoo IM
after having a pleasant PM conversation about Pendlay Rows
Soon, IM chats commenced
and it became a day-to-day engagement.
We talked about Fitness all the time
and rarely do I explore beyond the subject
in order to get to know him more.
We traded Friendster, Multiply and Facebook accounts.
I learned his name
and he learned mine.

It was a straight-to-straight affair
which I was able to handle as effectively as I could.

Until the chat transcript above made me realize that we might
have spoken in a double language.

Inhibition: Act One

On the first week of September, I was able to fend-off the temptations of clubbing by:

Friday:

  • Dragging myself out of the bed to visit an old buddy resting in peace beneath the evergreen lawns of Loyola.
  • Waiting for Master Centurion to arrive at the Santa Clara creating illusions that the tall hunky guy sitting beside me at the pew was Dominus.
  • Introducing the pinuno to my world by dining at Kowloon House, E. Rodriguez and taking a long briskly walk from the restaurant to Quatro Bar in Timog Avenue.
  • Downing a Macho Mug of San Miguel Light telling stories about bisexual friends who claim to have girlfriends and boyfriends/male affairs while a neophyte recruit from Pinoyexchange listens attentively across the table.
  • Storming the Octoberfest event in Megamall only to find it teeming with young men and women wearing black shirt and pants. They accented themselves with silver body accessories and painted their nails black. They talk loudly, walk in groups of ten or more, sits on the pavement next to one another and draw high-brow attention from other attendees with their shrill voices and tasteless attempts to stir trouble wherever they congregate.
  • Spending the rest of the night at Metrowalk with PExer friends exchanging stories about the most controversial and celebrated recent pair-ups in the group. Confirmations of third-party affairs, failed courtships and secret one-night stands flew across the table as the neophyte who was at Quatro earlier enjoys the windfall information about all the happenings surrounding the people he sees during big-meet ups of the group.
Saturday: (Text Messages)

Bestfriend Roy: "Ateng metrowalk tayo mamaya ha?" (welcome party for a friend who was exiled inside his house after a bout of illness forced him to stay home)

Papa Tagay: "DB bar kami mamaya.

(the weekly gimik pass has been used last night.)

Mugen: "All I want is to play Sims2. That's how I want to spend my Saturday night this week." (in fact, I bought a pirated copy of Freetime to complete my whole collection of Sims)

---

Exodus Of The Butterflies

Starbucks, Vito Cruz Manila - Roads are made for cars to pass, but on a cloudless early dawn, the car-less Taft Avenue is a welcome sight to the often congested street corner that frustrates commuters when they go to Buendia. The blissful silence, which is occasionally punctured by roaring container trucks stir some thought-provoking topics with Lostwansoul and several pexers who choose to stay and wait until the sunrise comes. I am thankful that such opportunity presents itself, for it gives a variety to the monotonous clubbing nights I usually seek in Malate.

"So how do you see your life in the years to come?" Lostwan asked, as he lights a stick of cigarette.

I didn't understand his question at first, so he rephrased it to get the exact answers from those who listened. "Do you want to grow old and die in the country?"

For some reasons, the sorry state of the country has been the dominant subject in tonight's coffee talk. One pexer, who I will call Phil in this entry arrived from San Francisco last month and told us how things were run differently there. He said that their healthcare system was awesome, their social security net really works for the people, and they are really attentive to disabled people. You can see in his eyes how his six months work had transformed him. He even said bitterly that in all the years he toiled here, he never felt the taxes he paid went back to him.

Comparisons were made at how taxes were spent here and in the US. In the country, money goes to corrupt officials and their cohorts, which is already a fact of life. Phil observed how people die here because our healthcare system sucks. "It's miserable to be poor in the country," he said. His words were like daggers falling from the sky. It stabs deep no matter how you try and cover yourself with anything to soften its impact.

If only I could share his sentiments. But for someone who never left the country his whole life, I do not know the points to compare.

All of them agreed that they want to live and die elsewhere. Lostwansoul preferred to enjoy his retirement in Australia or New Zealand because their society looks more progressive than ours. Another said that he might return, but he does not want to get old in Manila. This prefers to retire in the province. "At least doon, may mag-aalaga sayo," he defended.

Sadly, I was the only one who said I'm cool to stay and die here.

"I cannot imagine myself living in another country. Yes, you will earn big there but for what?" I answered painfully and with conviction in my heart.

"Maybe you do not see it as your plan yet." Lostwansoul answered.

God knows how deeply attached I am to my roots. If there is one big reason I haven't packed up my things yet to join the millions of overseas workers across the planet is because of my loved ones doesn't need the money I would send back. It is my presence that is more important to them. Our bond is so strong, that even if one takes my loved ones away from the picture, the more I cannot see any sense in living the rest of my life elsewhere.

Then I'd live for those who loyally served my family for years.

I cannot say that I'm nationalistic or a supporter of the administration. The government sucks, our leaders suck and sometimes, I think the Philippine society sucks. It doesn't mean that because everything sucks here, it's better to move elsewhere. Knowing that many people had already lost hope in the country, the more we should encourage the believers to stay,

and convince those who are still undecided to wait.

Because governments change and leaders change. One enlightened ruler, who is honest enough to dedicate himself for change can inspire an entire society to follow his lead. It happens elsewhere, so probably it can happen here too.

Of all the pexers who were talking about migrating at the steps of Starbucks this morning, I was one of those who is capable of leaving and going to places they never thought of settling. If I'm seriously itching to leave the country, I'd simply write to the cultural minister of a far-flung country like Iceland, Estonia or Montenegro, present myself as a writer who is interested in comparative civilization, and offer to visit and write as much as I can about their culture to promote here in our country. My golden ticket lies not with my connections, but with my affiliation to the Oblation.

They would consider. After all, a culture as old as theirs would be eager to export their way of life to an exotic land like ours. Imagine the opportunities I will get between the lengthy and profound comparative discussion of cultures and the moment I begin writing about them. Maybe in the wondrous process of discovering their way of life, I might get invited to stay with them for a long time.

However, when I weigh things out and realize how much I'm needed here than in any other place on the planet, my instinct would tell me that I am not ready yet for migration. There are so many things about the country, for better or for worse that I can still live with.

Jose Rizal, for all his wealth and influence did not settle in another country to live a good life. He instead choose to die in Bagumbayan out of his love... he said, for the country. I do not have the blazing passion of our national hero nor I care much for the Philippines. Much as it thrills me to plant my seeds in another land and eventually become one of their productive citizens, in the end, it's my conscience that tells me

Someone needs to stay behind.
